The first fruits of our recording the entire weekend at TUSK 2012 comes with the release of what is incredibly only the second album ever released of The Unit Ama. The Mason's Mallet documents their blazing live set on the Saturday of last year's festival and features their set in its entirety.
Largely unknown to most of the civilised world, The Unit Ama are yet regarded as near-legendary in Newcastle and certain quarters of Nottingham and Leeds.
Much sweat and time was decanted into the production of their one, eponymous album, which appeared on the Gringo label in 2006 and mapped out a seamless aural journey from Bitch Magnet and Fugazi through to Sonny Sharrock and Art Ensemble Of Chicago, lauding that mystical mental moment when certain amongst us felt ears and awareness bloom outward from a love of post-hardcore noise pop to a whole new esoteric, angular soundworld.
A power trio in the most fully rounded sense of the word, glorious soaring surges deconstruct and fracture seamlessly before re-rooting around dubbing bass pulses and again taking flight. The trio imploded not long after their debut album appeared, then just as enigmatically re-emerged in early 2012, fervent anticipation rewarded with a spree of incendiary live shows. Chances are til now you’re oblivious to their existence, but your mind will be radically changed.
